Name: Zaq Dayton
What do you do at 900lbs?
Graphics / UI Design
What do you do for fun?
Probably just a hodgepodge of random things you can think of (and a few normal things). I have a problem with board games and have no more cabinet space for my collection. I’ve been known to sling the dice from time to time playing D&D. I love video games and own every console and PC with the exception of the PS4. I enjoy playing the drums and little bit on the guitar and accordion. I’m also in a Ukrainian folk dancing group, because lessons were free and I love the culture. And, other stuff that I randomly tend to get into.
If you didn’t grow up in Dallas, where?
I was born in California, but moved away when I was 1-year-old, so that doesn’t count. I mostly grew up in the suburbs of north Dallas, primarily around the Highland Village area. I also spent quite a bit of time in Russia and Ukraine as well.
I’m a metal head and always will be, but the heavier “scary screaming” metal stuff. If I’m not listening to metal music, I’m most likely listening to indie rock or some old school hip-hop.
Where do you hang out in your free time?
Since I commit to a lot of extracurricular activities, I’m nearly in a different location everyday. However, if I’m not out and about you can usually find me hanging out with my buds or at home playing video games trying to wind down.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I really enjoyed my time spent in Russia and Ukraine. It feels like a second home to me.
What is your favorite 900lbs project so far?
Writing this on my Day One, and I’ve already been exposed to quite a bit. The most exciting project I’ve been a part of is definitely designing the user interface and GUI for a VR application the team is working on. What really gets me excited about it is that we are pioneers in this new field of technology. We get to shape the industry and play a huge role in setting its standards moving forward. Diving into the unknown and learning new skills is what truly motivates me, and I have that from my Day One!
